To help fight the many viruses and spam emails on the Internet MyExcel Internet Access has implementing a new powerful virus and junk email-filtering feature.

This new feature will filter emails for viruses and spam on the server before it gets to your computer. All primary email addresses will be given this feature free of charge. Additional email accounts may take advantage of this new service for the low monthly fee of only 99 cents per email address (quarterly plans as low as $2.97). That's less than one dollar a month or approximately just three cents per day to protect your computer against viruses and spam.

As of August 2006, world wide email statistics reveal that email on the Internet consist of the following:

Spam or Junk Emails 70.9%
Virus Infected Emails 2.7%
Legitimate Emails 26.4%

Log into My Account or call tech support to add this feature to your additional email addresses.

Click on My Services
Click on Buy New Products
Click on drop down arrow and chose new product (Spam and Virus Filter)

Default filtering settings will apply until modified by you. To manage your filtering feature you will need to log into the Message Center located at https://login.postini.com/exec/login - Enter your full e-mail address and password, and click the Log In button.

Managing Quarantined E-mail Messages

In the Message Center, you will see the e-mail messages that Postini has identified as spam or virus-infected. Here you will be able to read the blocked messages, delete them from the Message Center or deliver them to your inbox if the message should not have been identified as spam.

To read the body of blocked message, simply click the subject line of the message.

To remove a message from the Message Center, select the checkbox to the left of the message and click the Remove button. To remove multiple messages, select multiple check boxes or click the checkbox in the header to select or unselect all messages. Removing messages will move them to a Removed folder, which is automatically cleaned out on a regular basis.

To deliver a message to your mailbox, select one or multiple messages and click the Deliver button. You will be prompted whether or not you want to add the sender to you approved senders list so messages from them are not quarantined in the future. Note that you cannot deliver messages identified as virus infected.

Messages in your Message Center will be held for 14 days. After 14 days they will automatically be deleted.

Adjusting Your Filtering Settings - Junk Mail

Postini gives you the option to adjust the sensitivity of your spam filtering. You can choose more aggressive filtering settings if you are receiving too many spam messages or select less aggressive filtering if non-spam messages are being filtered by Postini.

To adjust the sensitivity of your junk mail filters, log into the Message Center and click the Junk Email Settings link. Postini allows you to adjust the overall sensitivity of your spam filtering as well as the sensitivity of four subcategories of spam categories; sexually explicit messages, get rich quick schemes, special offers and racially insensitive messages. To start with, we recommend that you either set the overall bulk email filtering level to a medium to aggressive level while keeping the individual categories set to a lenient level or set the overall bulk email filtering to lenient and each of the category levels to medium or aggressive. Note that this is just an initial recommendation, many people may wish to adjust the bulk mail filtering to a higher level.

Select your filtering sensitivity levels and click the Save Changes button. After adjusting your filtering levels, monitor your Message Center closely and adjust your filters to suit your individual preferences.

Adjusting Your Filtering Settings - Virus-infected

To change your virus filtering settings, log into the Message Center and click the Virus Settings link. Here you can choose if and how often you would like to receive notification of quarantined virus-infected messages. If you choose to receive notifications immediately or one per day, you will receive an e-mail message in your account letting you know when Postini has blocked a virus message from being sent to your account. If you choose to disable notifications, you will not receive an e-mail letting you know that a virus-infected message has been blocked, however, Postini will continue to filter virus-infected messages and store them in your Message Center.

Managing Your Sender Lists

Postini lets you create a list of approved senders and a list of blocked senders. People on the approved senders list will never have their messages blocked by the spam filters. Senders on the blocked senders list will always have their messages sent to the Message Center instead of to your account.

To manage your approved and blocked senders lists, log into the Message Center and click the Junk Email Settings link.

To add an approved sender, enter the sender's e-mail address the text field under the "Approved Senders" heading and click the Save to List button. Alternatively, you can approve all senders from a particular domain by entering the e-mail domain name in the text field under "Approved Senders" and clicking the Save to List button. For example, if you add a domain such as myexcel.com to your approved senders list, any message sent from an address that ends with @myexcel.com will bypass the spam filtering.

To remove a sender from your approved senders list, highlight the sender and click the Delete from List button.

The adding and removing of blocked senders is performed in the same way. The blocked senders list can also be used to block all senders from a specified domain.

Submitting Spam

When you receive spam email, please submit it to Postini at spam@postini.com. Please forward these messages AS ATTACHMENTS. Simply forwarding the message itself discards the essential header (routing) information used to track how the spam got to your mailbox.
